Call for applications for the EUA-CDE Steering Committee

The EUA Council for Doctoral Education (EUA-CDE) has opened a call for applications to appoint three new Steering Committee members.

The EUA-CDE Steering Committee guides the preparation and implementation of the EUA-CDE work programme. By working closely with the EUA-CDE Secretariat, members advise on future activities and identify emerging trends and priorities in doctoral education. The Steering Committee meets in person four times per year.

The EUA Board will establish a selection committee. It will be the responsibility of the committee to prepare a shortlist of candidates for consideration by the EUA Board. EUA-CDE Steering Committee members will be appointed for a period of three years, which can be renewed one time. The nominations committee will seek candidates who are diverse in terms of institutional and disciplinary background, geography, and gender, while also observing that no more than one member will be appointed from the same country.

The present EUA-CDE Steering Committee comprises the following members:

Pirjo Nikander, Tampere University, Finland

Andrei Terian-Dan, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Romania

Karin van Wingerde, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands

Massimiliano Zattin, University of Padua, Italy

Maurizio Tira, University of Brescia, Italy (ex-officio EUA Board member).

The members whose term is ending are: Aleksandra Kanjuo-Mrčela, Pirjo Nikander and Åse Gornitzka.

The new members will begin their mandate in September 2025.

Interested candidates should fulfil the following criteria:

1. Hold a position of institution-wide responsibility for the doctorate in an EUA-CDE member university at the level of vice-rector, doctoral school director or similar.

2. Demonstrate a considerable level of expertise and concrete experience concerning the institutional management of doctoral education.

3. Possess knowledge about national and international debates and policies in the area.

4. Have a clear and well-informed vision for doctoral education in Europe. This vision should be described in a short statement to be sent with the application.

Candidates should send a short CV (1-2 pages), a cover letter demonstrating the criteria above and the motivation, and a short statement on their vision for doctoral education in Europe to Ana-Maria Peneoasu (ana.maria.peneoasu@eua.eu) by 16 June 2025.
