The EUA Council for Doctoral Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Marti as its new Head.
Prior to taking up the position on 1 July 2024, Simon headed SwissCore, the Swiss Contact Office for European Research, Innovation and Education in Brussels, for the past five years.
Previously, Simon was the Head of the Office of Science, Technology and Higher Education at the Embassy of Switzerland in the United States and before that worked as a Project Manager in Education Management and Research with the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation in Bern. Simon is a political scientist and holds a master’s degree from the University of Bern. He completed his doctorate in Swiss-EU relations at the University of Basel and then conducted postdoctoral research as a visiting scholar at Columbia University.
The European University Association is greatly indebted to Alexander Hasgall, Simon’s predecessor, for his notable contribution to the development of EUA-CDE during his time as its Head.
“This is an exciting time for EUA-CDE and I am looking forward to working with Simon as we nurture and grow the extremely engaged and active CDE community. We just gathered in Barcelona for the 2024 EUA-CDE Annual Meeting, and I am very happy that Simon could already join us there and meet so many of our members.” said Stephane Berghmans, Director for Research and Innovation at EUA.
“I am thrilled to start my new role and I am impressed by the spirit of the EUA-CDE community – I very much look forward to working with them.” added Simon Marti.
